Today we have 500 points of Vikings vs 500 points of Normans.
The forces faced off on a country farm. This is the All Out War mission. The aim here is to reduce a force to 25% of their original size.
Meet the forces.
The Normans
The Nomans are sporting 2 Heroes. A combat Hero specialised as a Melee Specialist (Get an extra attack in combat) and a Support Hero specialised as an Inspiration Specialist (Improve morale of nearby friendly units).
They have a good mix of ranged units, soldiers and cavalry.
The Vikings
The Vikings have 2 Combat Heroes. Both Specialised as Melee Specialists. Along with them are a few archers with plenty of infantry consisting of shield bearing warriors and warriors with heavy weapons. They also have a Berserker.
Deployment
Both forces take turns with placing units on the battlefield. The size of the deployment zones are 4" from the edge of the board.
Turn 1
The Vikings get priority and begin by charging up the table. The Normans move into defensive positions and have their archers fire on the approaching Vikings. No units are killed but the Berserker does lose a wound.
Turn 2
Both armies move in and engage in combat either side of the southern house with archers firing at each other but no units get killed. In combat the Vikings with Dane Axes manage to take out 2 warriors and a cavalryman. As a result the Normans have to take a morale test causing another cavalryman to flee.
Turn 3
The Vikings manage to make good ground and begin to surround both flanks of the Normans. The archers continue to shoot each other taking losses on both sides. Combat then proved to be bloody with both sides losing 4 units each.
As both armies lose the same amount of troops this turn, no Morale tests are taken.
Turn 4
The Normans take an early advantage by taking out some Vikings at range however their flanks begin to become over-run on both flanks. Due to becoming outnumbered and some very unfortunate rolls, The Nomans lose 6 troops while the Vikings only lose 2. Due to this devastating loss the Normans are forced to make a morale check but luckily, no one runs away. The Normans have one more chance to pull back from defeat. If they lose one more unit they will be driven from the field.
Turn 5
The Vikings get priority and as their first activation, they activate an archer who fires at the last remaining Norman Archer. The Viking not only manages to hit his target but makes a killing blow, defeating the Normans.
Lets have a look at the final forces.
